Pheasant Tower Shoots

Your eyes strain to see any movement from the launching area just as a ringneck catapults from the tower. Cackling, the irredescent cock hurtles from the tower and is coming full bore towards you. Your mouth gets dry, your heart pounds as your thumb nervously rests on the safety of your favorite shotgun. Thoughts flash through your mind. Will he be too high to get off a shot... Will he change direction and soar over one of the other hunters instead of me...? Too late, you realize your subconscious distractions have frozen your reflexes and the "king" of upland game birds streaks by you so quickly that your load of #6's only rips out a few tail-feathers . If this kind of actions "trips your trigger", give us a shout!

All I can say about this shoot is "the wind blew and the birds flew!!  What I can't understand is, how someone can consistently "hit"  a 4" clay target and then consistently "miss" a feathered target almost 2 feet long! Tim Doss and Dave Abney demonstrate the the correct  "2 o'clock" position. The picture says it all.  "Bye-bye birdie"!        Wish I had a close up lens to show the pheasant poop on the bill of their hats!
On a more serious note, taking your children to  the woods is the best way I know of to instill good feelings and habits that will stand the test of time. Panhandle Pointers and Outfitters encourages you, once they've had proper gun safety instruction, to bring them to the field and share the experiences the outdoors has to offer. Pictured from left to right are Charles and Mac Bonham, and Darrell and Garrett Calhoun. The Bonhams pause for a picture during a break in the actionGarrett Calhoun "backs " his dad with his trusty "Red Ryder"
Although Charles Ansley(left) says Grover Davis didn't give him a whole loft of help, they still managed to bag their fair share of the birds on this windy day in the Florida Panhandle      Grover swore they had flack jackets on!
The "Bear Creek Boys" swore they killed everything that flew in their direction. I have had the distinct pleasure to hang around them at the "club" on occasion and have found them to be great companions. However, they do have one critical flaw. They will "stretch" the truth from time to time.         Here they are doing what they do best, pausing for "cool refreshment" at the conclusion of the hunt.
I had the opportunity to stop and watch the McClelland boys (Travis left and Tyler right)  as they shot under the watchful eye of their father Scott. They seemed to be bagging their fair share of the ringnecks. I guess there's something to be said for being young and still having quick reflexes.        Tyler's probably hoping big brother will miss so he'll get a back-up opportunity
James Davis(left) and Rupert Brown said, "I don't know why the 'Bear Creek Boys' are finding this tower shooting so challenging. It's simple. Just aim, shoot,  keep the gun swinging, and the bird will drop. Maybe it's the "adrenlin" factor. When the pulse races and the heart is pumpin' overtime, we have a tendency to forget all that good trainin' we had on the skeet range.
