Panhandle Pointers and Outfitters offers training  for all pointing and retrieving breeds. We've been producing well trained bird dogs for the last 30 years. During this period of time, we have acquired the skills to develop, or help you train a hunting prospect that will be a pleasure to walk or ride behind through woods, fields, or any other shooting environment you might encounter . Focus is placed on time honored, as well as, state of the art training methods and equipment that will help your dog reach its greatest hunting potential. Come check us out, our rates are some of the most reasonable that you'll find anywhere.

Want style like this? Give us a call! The first stage of the training process is to "assess" your dog's capabilities. The assessment is not mandatory, but is highly recommended  to owners that are able to personally bring their dogs in for an evaluation. We want to know up front what your expectations are so that our training program can be tailored to fit your needs. You don't need to waste your hard earned dollars on a pup that's not likely to  meet your standards when he's reached maturity.

Millard Nixon puts "power steering" on Panhandle's Hoss! Your dog's first training sessions will focus on training it to "come when called" either by voice or whistle. In the photo to the left, Panhandle's Blaze is being taught to change direction and come in with a "check cord".

Next your dog will be "whoa  broke" and taught to be "staunch" on point (like Panhandle's Grits in the upper left picture). We can also train your dog to be "steady to wing and shot" if you decide it's necessary. However, we encourage only owners interested  in field trialing to request this refinement.

Close encounters of the best kind!

A sad fact of the dog world is that most of them aren't natural retrievers. If you're having this problem,  we can "force break" him on our training table. (Pictured at left is "Rusty" (Brittany Spaniel delivering a hen "rooster" to hand) Force breaking is a must if you want a dog that won't refuse to bring you game under any set of hunting conditions. Additionally, "force training"  should eliminate " hardmouth "and make your dog more confident. Send us your prospect and we'll make him into a hunting companion you'll be proud to take to the field.

If your hunting plans include hunting your dog with other hunters and their dogs, it's important for him to "honor" his bracemate's point (Check out Fritz (German Shorthair) and Jagger (Visla) at left). Nothing will end a hunting friendship quicker than ruining a hunt with an ill-mannered dog. If you're dog is "creeping" in and "stealing point", let us "tighten" him up for you.
